Growth from Ruin

MOON MOTH CREATIVE ///Growth From Ruin /// 2016 /// graphite and matte finish on paper. /// 22 x 30 inches ///

The Idea was founded while looking at the, ” Procession of Pope Sylvester 1“, by Raphael at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The image sat with me for some time. The drawing was also influenced by reading and watching of the,”Moomin’s” specifically, “Comet in Moominland” by Tove Jansson.

Continually looking at the work of Bruegel the Elder the idea started to grow and take shape. I soon remembered Bruegel’s, “12 Proverbs“, from 1558. The figure that is pissing against the moon in the lower right hand panel and it’s meaning intrigued me.

The lack of effort by many to acknowledge, understand and take action in dealing with the environmental calamity looming before us also plays a role in the creation of this drawing. On the other side of the coin. There are many who are leading the way toward education, preservation, new regulations and are working for the Earth and the inhabitants of it. I tip my cap.

In my humble opinion there has to be a holistic change by and with in the people of  the planet Earth. I do want to think positively about these matters but every time I shake a magic eight ball it always say’s, “outlook does not look good”. I still have faith in humanity.

On a personal note my life has been turned up side down. My Wife and I are separating. It is the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I know that it happens to many but it has not happened to us before so the pain is unique. With that said the rebuilding process is unique as well.
